Technical Details

This is a Buddha Painting with Acrylic colors on the canvas. This stunning painting depicts the Buddha's Flower Sermon in which he wordlessly held up a lotus flower to his followers as a teaching of the dharma. Lotus is a multi-layered symbol. First as a symbol of purity- its roots are in muddy water, but the lotus flower rises above the mud to bloom, clean and fragrant. It resembles the purifying of the spirit which is born into murkiness. Second, each color implies a different quality of the Buddha mind. A white lotus flower refers to purity of the mind and the spirit. Third as a symbolism of the stages of growth. A lotus flower fully bloomed and open represents full enlightenment and self-awareness. Rising above the mud to bloom requires great faith in oneself, in the practice, and in the Buddha's teaching. So, along with purity and enlightenment, a lotus also represents faith.
